Week 30/2025: A series of public apologies

Week of 21 July 2025

This post is wholly researched and written by me. I do not use AI in my writing. I will always bring you my stories in my real human voice.

A wonderful week ending in a series of public apologies

A happy week

Kramstable came home for a week, which was just the most wonderful thing, even though we’d only seen him a few weeks ago. It turned out he was able to get away for a week, and it was so good to see him.

I took him to visit his new cat cousin and we had lots of coffee dates. I am super grateful for having had time with him to chat about how he’s going at university and what his life is like now. Even though we chat a lot online, it’s not the same as actually sitting down and having a conversation. So it was fabulous.

Of course, the week went too quickly and I was sad all over again when we took him to the airport on Sunday night.

A series of public apologies

Something else I was happy about was that Kramstable was here in time to see my drama class performance on Sunday.

This was a play called A series of public apologies (in response to an unfortunate incident in the school lavatories), a “satirical play, heightens in its naturalism in its parody and piercing in its interrogation of how our attempts to define ourselves in public are shaped by fear of saying the wrong thing”.

Think of an unfortunate incident occurring,  group of people from the school having to front an upset crowd to apologise for said incident, which doesn’t go down well, so there’s a need to issue an apology for the apology, and then a need to issue a further apology for the apology about the apology, and so it goes . . .

“The decapitation was . . . regrettable.”

Being in the play

It was a challenging play to perform because, like Uncensored last year, there are no characters and no set lines, so we had to build characters based entirely on the lines we were given. My job became a little easier when I was allocated a lengthy chunk of lines that suggested to me I was drama teacher, so I had Ms Darbus from High School Musical in the back of my mind. At least for a costume.

I found it really hard to learn my lines, or more specifically, my cues, because some of the lines before mine didn’t naturally lead into the lines I had to say. And, you know, I’m menopausal and forgetful. Or something. And we had a few people drop out during the term, so some lines had to be reallocated, which totally messed with my head.

But it was a great experience, loads of fun, and I loved being back in the theatre, even though it was terrifying. I was thrilled that Kramstable was able to be there. I hope he liked it! I appreciated having some other friendly faces in the audience too, and I’m grateful to them for coming to see me.
